Abstract(309) PDF(21)
Abstract:
The experimentalism, the narrowed materialism and the scientism, deriving from classical Nominalism and then prevailing over the West in 17th-18th century, mortally destroyed the human morality and the infrastructure of justice by totally denying the Metaphysics where the ethic and the justice were to rely and exist, thus reducing the human being near to the animals. In order to maintain the ethic and the justice distinguishing the human being from the animals, Kant firstly demonstrated the Idealistic ethic by starting with the nonontological and the formalistic morality. Contrary to the path of Kant, Max Scheler, a leading thinker of the phenomenological school, constructed the ontology of ethics by the employment of the emotionalism, and demonstrated the existence of the value, the multilayered patterns of the value and the pluralistic knowledge in the world, and provided the criteria and the standard of the judgement of the good. Juergen Habermas, however, basing himself on the works of Kant and Scheler but shifting from the “soliloquist and soliloquizing” and “single-subjective” to the “intersubjective” and “communicativereason” theorywhich distinguishesitselffromtherationalisttradition, provided a proceduralpattern and process principle thereby modern ethics and political justice could be acquired for the shift of the philosophic epistemology of the ethics and the justice to procedure perspective.

QI Xi
2009, 25(1): 106-111.
Abstract(290) PDF(21)
Abstract:
The paper, based on the related research on English causative constructions and on the theory of “projection” in Systemic Functional Linguistics, carries out a discussion on “Agent-centered” causative constructions and “projection”. The analysis shows that while causative constructions, with the “please” type affective verb, the “guarantee” type causative relational process verb, or the “please” type cognitive verb as Process, can take an embedded fact or a hypotactic projected idea as one constituent of the construction, they are distinguished from the hypotactic locution projection, though the borderline between them is somewhat blurring. The analysis is believed to facilitate a better understanding of the expression of the causative meaning in English.
Comparison of Descriptions of English Nominal Groups Between the Sydney Grammar and the Cardiff Grammar
LI Man-liang
2009, 25(1): 112-119.
Abstract(184) PDF(19)
Abstract:
Both the Sydney Grammar and the Cardiff Grammar are theoretically based on Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics, and the two models have both similarities and differences in describing real language phenomena. This research discusses the similarities and the differences of the two models in depicting the nominal group in English. The two models regard the nominal group as a fundamental syntactic unit and agree that the description is functional rather than formal. However, their descriptions of the internal structure of the nominal group differ much, in terms of the functional labels and the way of describing. All these similarities and differemces can demonstrate that the two models have the same theoretical basis and have their own characteristics as well. We think that the combination of the two models in describing the English nominal group will be of great value in practice.

TANG Wen-jia, ZHANG Li-bo
2009, 25(1): 158-161,167.
Abstract(489) PDF(20)
Abstract:
Schiller was a concerned intellectual of the 19th century. His works are full of the memory of the integrity of human nature and the past that can never come back. But he does not indulge in such a nostalgic mood, and at the same time he clearly realizes the truth is that reality can never turn back. As a result, he uses the strong sense of opposition to illustrate the two sharp sides of the contradiction. However, interpreting the problem is not the ultimate goal of Schiller, he is in search of “get back to the original state in the double chaos through aesthetics”, to achieve the balanced aesthetics. The ideal state of aesthetic is not waving, hesitating, and certainly not to make a choice, but to recognize and further combine the opposite state of the two sides, in order to show the balance of the sensibility and form. And when the two sides come to their extreme state-to become one, that is the best state of the balanced aesthetics, the aesthetics beyond the balance, and to reach the goal of the redemption of the aesthetics.
On the Modern Transformation of the Spirit of Confucian Ethics in the Context of the Market Economy
CHI Cheng-yong, GUO Guang-yin
2009, 25(1): 162-167.
Abstract(324) PDF(17)
Abstract:
The spirit of Confucian ethics is virtually the ethical footnote of the feudal political system and natural economy in old China. Stressing justice instead of benefit, stressing peace instead of struggle, stressing virtues instead of laws, stressing collectivity instead of selfishness and a hierarchy of social stratums, all of these are virtually by-products of natural economy and the integrity of family-state. These have their limitations. Only through a creative transformation of the Confucian ethics and infilteration of the time-spirit could it meet the need of the socialist market economy in contemperary China. The creative transformation involves the combination of justice and benefit, stressing competition, collectrivity and selfishness, and equality and freedom.
