  • With the cancelling of imperial examination, apperance of new schools and new knowlegde crowd, the social foundation of confucianism was shaken. The new intellectuals came up with the slogans, like "confucianism-Modification" "No saint" and "Confucianism-Exclusion", and fiercely criticized confucius and confucianism. This trend of thought shook the status of confu-cianism and paved the way for the coming "Anti-Confucius and Criticism of Confucionism" during the May 4th Movement period.
