    Abstract
  • Ecolinguistics addresses the relationship between language and ecology.Two major approaches have been identified,i.e.Haugenian Approach and Hallidayan Approach.The present study aims to uncover the inheritance and development of Marxist views on language and ecology by the Hallidayan Approach.Among the views are the social nature of language,the relationship between language, matter and consciousness, and linguistic constructivism.Influenced by the “two reconciliations”of Marxist views on ecology,the Hallidayan Approach is also critical of capitalism,which is by nature anti-ecological.The task of a Hallidayan ecolinguist is therefore to uncover“how our ways of meaning affect the impact we have on the environment”.
