This paper is devoted to its origin, research status and the problems existing in the current studies. It is hoped to shed light on the future PDA studies.
Towards Cardiff Grammar’s View of Language as Program
XIANG Da-jun
2018, 34(3): 42-48,69.
Abstract(417) PDF(16)
Abstract:
The theoretical system and research paradigm of Cardiff Grammar (CG) mainly originates from its view of language as program. This view postulates that language should be viewed as a process, a procedure, a program for behavior. Based on this view of language, CG has constructed a holistic and cognitive-interactive model of language and its use, which unified theoretical-generative and text-descriptive strands of the theory. This is the origin of the descriptive division between CG and Halliday’s model. The paper first states what language as program is in CG, and then specifies this view from three aspects: stratification, multi-functionality, and syntactic description. The new view of language as program in CG has opened new ways for Systemic Functional Linguistics to achieve its appliability from linguistic theory into the field of artificial intelligence, and enriched its philosophy of grammar.
Revisiting the Concept of Register from the Perspective of Typology
LIU Xiang-dong
2018, 34(3): 49-56.
Abstract(425) PDF(13)
Abstract:
This paper reviews the gist, level and function of the concept of register within the overall SFL framework. Then, it points out that the ideas and methods of functional typology can shed much light on studies on register, providing resources for a finer scale of delicacy to describe register. Context can be sub-categorized in terms of three dimensions: fields of activity, tenor relationship and social semiotic mode, which accord respectively with field, tenor and mode. Based on this approach, types and subtypes of different registers can be described and interpreted precisely. The study shows that the mechanism of register is recursive through the language system, determined dynamically by the three variables of context.

Theory of Planned Behavior Approach to Understand the Determinants of Green Agricultural Products Purchasing Behavior
CHEN Liang-min
2018, 34(3): 62-69.
Abstract(401) PDF(31)
Abstract:
Based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and some related research, this study creates a framework to understand green farm products purchasing behavior. By using the single factor analysis of variance and Logit model, this paper studies the influence of consumer risk preference, health consciousness, willingness to pay premium, behavior and consciousness consistency, consumer individual characteristics and characteristics of family on consumer green agricultural products purchasing behavior. We find that there are significant difference between male and female groups, and health consciousness and willingness to pay premium have significant positive correlation to consumer green agricultural products purchasing behavior especially for women. Men show consciousness and behavior inconsistency which has significant negative effect on green agricultural products purchasing. The family characteristics of consumer have more significant effect on green agricultural products purchasing than individual characteristics. Women living with children increase green purchasing, but people living alone do the opposite.

Ideology and Strategies of Culture-oriented Translation—A Comparative Study on Two Versions of Fu Sheng Liu Ji
LUO Jun-hui
2018, 34(3): 70-77,84.
Abstract(296) PDF(14)
Abstract:
Traditional translation theories are unable to explain certain “unfaithful” translations along with further translation practice. Lefevere’s theory brings a brand-new perspective of ideology on explaining the “unfaithful” phenomena. Through making a comparative study of two English versions of Fu Sheng Liu Ji on the culture-oriented translation strategies, the aim of this paper is to clarify the relationship between ideology and the culture-oriented translation strategies. Thereafter practitioners in translation could make better choices on translation strategies, avoid the effect of ethnocentrism and eventually be able to make equal cultural exchange happen in the future.

The Viewpoint of “Harmony in Diversity” and Post-colonial Differentiation under the Perspective of Cultural Confliction
JIANG Ping
2018, 34(3): 78-84.
Abstract(462) PDF(16)
Abstract:
The “Cultural Conflict” has become the most important form of expression of the world conflicts. It has both positive side and negative side because it is influenced by the positive and negative function of social conflict. It is comprehended quite differently in post-colonial theory and the Chinese traditional culture. Both “harmony” and “diversity” has two side. By analyzing the precondition for Chinese traditional viewpoint of “Harmony in Diversity” and the relationship between “justice” and “benefits”, this paper compares the differences between these two theories and discusses the possibility of combining the advantages of both theories and avoiding their disadvantages to create transformation of Chinese traditional culture under the influence of post-colonial theory of the base that “Harmony” blends in the modern culture and its positive function of the battlefield of complex recessive cultural colonization. So it can help with overcoming, relieving and solving cultural confliction.

GU Chun
2018, 34(3): 85-91.
Abstract(216) PDF(11)
Abstract:
Guo Songtao developed a concept that Chinese culture is fundamental while western culture is incidental through his unique observations based on his personal experiences in the West and his profound criticism on the Chinese autocratic system. This concept was considered different from that of the advocates of the westernization movements as well as to have surpassed his time. This paper aims to reveal the connotations and practical significance of Guo’s political opinions through the analysis of the change of his views on the western politics after he had been to the West as the Chinese ambassador, and more importantly, through the analysis of his reflections on the cause and effect of the feudal system.

Time Study on Public Policy Making—Based on S City’s “Car Control” Policy Analysis
DU Qin-nan
2018, 34(3): 92-99.
Abstract(256) PDF(12)
Abstract:
Time is a common and important element in policy making. Exploring the meaning of time and the conditions and influence of decision makers’ grasping of time elements can help understanding policy making deeply .The existing researches are mainly based on Western countries or EU, not on China. Decision-makers’ time-related policy actions have become the main proposition for people to question “Car Control” policy. This essay analyzes S city’s “Car Control” policy making process on the perspective of time strategies, and finds out: the government takes time strategy to balance the conflict between policy responsiveness and accountability. The choice of time strategy depends on the incentives from government credibility and policy effectiveness. Once time is ignored or misused, it may lead a certain policy to performance or legitimacy difficulties. Public policy and public management should take time seriously.
Whose Space: Discussion on Field Power in the Makerspace of University
YANG Xiu
2018, 34(3): 100-105.
Abstract(302) PDF(7)
Abstract:
There is a certain degree of autonomy in the makerspace, which most of universities have set up recently. And some makerspace actors’ goals are to obtain all kinds of resources from the university, corporation and government. Using the field theory from Bourdieu and Swartzs, this paper finds that the university makerspace has four kinds of power: administrative power, capital power, knowledge power and behavior subject power, and the paper analyzes the relationship between the four powers. Then it holds that only a full play to the initiative and innovation of student groups can make a real makerspace.

On the Evolution and Return of Utopian Narrative Thought in Ge Fei’s Fiction
SUN Jing-peng
2018, 34(3): 106-112.
Abstract(383) PDF(15)
Abstract:
Ge Fei’s fiction has been studied for three decades, and the achievements are countless, but it doesn’t mean the end of the research. As for “Southern Trilogy” and Yin Shen Yi, they seemingly have no relationship, but in fact, there’s a close relationship between them. So only the research into them is conducted as a whole, the process of the development from “Utopia” to “Anti-utopian” and then returning to “Utopia” can be intuitively grasped; the recessive regression of Utopian narrative thought can be clearly seen; the complex evolution of Utopian narrative thought can be comprehensively combed; the Utopian narrative thought in Ge Fei’s fiction can be correctly interpreted, thus the gaps of the research into Ge Fei’s fiction can be made up. The regression of Utopian narrative thought is not only an irreversible historical trend and the inherent requirement of social development, but also the inevitable requirement of the positive meaning of Utopian and the rigid need of personal survival and development. It’s the inevitable result of development of Ge Fei’s cognition. Through such “evolution” and “regression”, Ge Fei shows us the significance and great value of “Utopian”.
Study on the Mutual Influence of Chen Menglin’s Literature and Local Chronicles Theory
ZHENG Li-xia
2018, 34(3): 113-118.
Abstract(369) PDF(23)
Abstract:

With two identities, Chen Menglin has both the rigor of historians and the literary sentiments, resulting in the integration of his local records and literary creation. On the one hand, his literary thoughts are marked by the science of local chronicles. He advocates enlightenment with literature, emphasizing that literary writers must have a history of interest, he loves to use allusions, and integrates academic textual research into landscapes, presenting the critically-questionable and philosophical color of his research. On the other hand, his compiled local chronicles have more literary features. He attaches great importance to the collection of local literary texts and captures the special charm of literature in historical literature materials with his unique literary sensitivity. Both the choreography mode and the writing style reflect a conscious literary consciousness, setting a good example for Taiwan’s local records and having a far-reaching impact.
