ZHENG Hong-lian, WANG Fu-fang
2018, 34(4): 9-16.
Abstract(362) PDF(6)
Abstract:
Environmental discourse studies grow very fast and have made a lot of achievements in recent years because of their importance in the process of social development. This paper focuses on environmental discourse studies from the perspective of linguistics and adopts the research method of literature review. It reviews all the relevant studies around the definition of environmental discourse, linguistic features, academic history home and abroad. It also puts forward new ideas on the research trends. The paper advances that environmental discourses are both linguistic products of antagonism between environment and economy, and linguistic representatives of environmental phenomena and notions.Environmental discourses, which provide cognitive tools and conceptual techniques for people to understand and communicate with environment, are very significant in constructing, sustaining and changing environmental reality. It proves that environmental discourse studies, which have bright research prospects and huge social application values, offer a new insight to the exploration of linguistics and the connection between human beings and environment.
Participant Role Allocation and Ecological Ideology Construal in Nature Documentary Film
YU Juan, WANG Yin
2018, 34(4): 17-26.
Abstract(247) PDF(3)
Abstract:
In SFL,participant roles refer to the subsystem of transitivity that embodies ideational function and constructs the world with process. The core component of transitivity system is the process, which requires the allocation of specific participant roles to complete the construal of meaning.Based on a documentary film of BBC and the social actor representation framework proposed by van Leeuven, this paper aims to explore how the ecological ideology is constructed by analyzing the role allocation strategies from three aspects(activation and passivation, generification and specification,as well as nomination and differentiation). The result shows that there are three features in terms of participant roles allocation in nature documentary films.Firstly, most of the active roles are assigned to non-human beings instead of human being; secondly, the animals in the films are activated by assigning them major participant roles rather than minor ones; lastly, the film producers use collective pronoun to refer to animal roles rather than singular pronoun “it” so as to reduce the anthropocentrism tendency.

CHANG Jun-fang, CONG Ying-xu
2018, 34(4): 27-32.
Abstract(487) PDF(11)
Abstract:
The study tries to construct the multi-stratal analysis pattern of ecological discourse by analyzing the ideology, context and discourse levels from the discourse delivered by China’s minister of environment protection from the systemic functional perspective. The research finds that the ideology in the speech accords with Marxism’s conception of ecological development and that the benefits of growth are broadly shared. The language bears typical political features in which grammatical metaphors, declarative sentences, especially imperative sentences are widely used.Thematic progression, reference, lexical cohesion and conjunction together promote cohesion. The multi-stratal analysis pattern helps to analyze the cognitive and functional generation mechanism of ecological discourse and enrich the ecological linguistics theory.

YUAN Ying
2018, 34(4): 33-41.
Abstract(373) PDF(12)
Abstract:
The ecological analytical framework for discourse combines ecological sense of place with the theory of systemic functional linguistics, which provides a theoretical basis for ecolinguistic research. In light of this frame work, the research, from perspective of ecology, explores the ecological meaning of BBC news headlines about China haze and reveals the ecological approach of media reports, through a refined analysis from transitivity, mood, modality, appraisal, theme and information systems, and a comprehensive empirical analysis of the headlines. We discover that although The BBC's coverage about China haze is incomplete because news inevitably carries ideology, these headlines issue the negative reports concerning the negative ecological circumstance, and BBC news headlines about China haze have eco-beneficial features.Meanwhile, the paper may be heuristic for the news media in China.

The Neurobiological Basis of Semogenesis: A Perspective of Neural Darwinism
XIE Chui-ping
2018, 34(4): 49-55.
Abstract(286) PDF(0)
Abstract:
This paper firstly traces the sociobiological acountability of semogenesis and then interprets the tenets of neural Darwinism, with an aim to explore the neurobiological basis of semogenesis and language cognition from the perspective of SFL and thus illuminate the relationship between SFL and neurobiological science, holding that semogenesis is a new direction in relating the two disciplines. The interpretation of semogenesis from the perspective of neural Darwinism highlights the dialectical materialistic view of language evolution in SFL.The association between SFL and neural cognitive sciences indicates that SFL covers both inter-organic(i.e.social)and intra-organic(i.e.neuro-biological)aspects of language. This may help to clarify the misconception that SFL ignores the intra-organic factors.Due to the latest development of SFL,a coherent language-processing model has been constructed for the neurobiological study of language, which in turn provides a solid intra-organic basis for SFL.It is then argued that the complexity science should be adopted into the study of SFL,which will be a new direction in the transdisciplinary research of SFL.

The Phenomenon and Causes ofthe Mixture and Conjunction of Fu and Song
YANG Hua-kun
2018, 34(4): 82-87.
Abstract(222) PDF(0)
Abstract:
As two literary styles originated from Han Dynasty, Fu and Song have several aspects in common. In ancient times,Song could be used as the phonetic loan character of another Song which means chanting, while Fu is also considered “odes by chanting without singing”, hence Fu is often used to refer to Song.Besides, another cause of the alternative use of Song and Fu is the strengthened function of Fu to eulogize, after the Eastern Han Dynasty.Apart from the particular reference to Fu, “Fusong” as a regular word has two implications:general reference to the verse, and the specific reference to Fu and Song. What leads to the conjunction of Fu and Song as“Fu-song” is that both of them have the function of eulogizing, as well as their homogeneous literary forms and similar status in classical Chinese literature.

ZHAO Shuang, YANG Bo
2018, 34(4): 88-94.
Abstract(253) PDF(4)
Abstract:
Gift exchange is the main concern of sociologists to research social relations. As a kind of exchange system, gift exchange contributes to the formation of cohesion among groups and communities. In contrast, commodity exchange is considered to be a form of exchange that occurs in the market society, and easy to create individualized and atomized social relationships. This paper points out that sociologists advanced by reading the relevant literature:one view is that gift is a hidden commodity,in contrast, another view is that gifts and commodities point to completely different forms of social relations.By making in-depth analysis, this paper further points out that the rebuilding of gift relationship in modern society may be an unachievable task.

WU He-qi
2018, 34(4): 111-118.
Abstract(280) PDF(4)
Abstract:
The SCO anti-terrorism legal mechanism is the institutional basis for regional anti-terrorism led by regional state organizations. On the issue of the terrorist crimes in Central Asia, the SCO's anti-terrorist fights guided by the anti-terrorist legal mechanism has achieved remarkable results. However, with the development of terrorism, it is necessary for the SCO to play a greater role, and the existing anti-terrorism legal mechanisms are inadequate.Comparing the anti-terrorist legal mechanisms of the United Nations and other regional organizations, the SCO's anti-terrorism legal mechanism is not clear on the definition of terrorist crimes, and urgently needs to be improved in counter-terrorism criminal justice cooperation. In this regard, we can learn more mature experiences from global and regional organizations, and combine the actual situation in the region to improve the SCO's anti-terrorism legal mechanism. At the same time,in the path of the construction of the anti-terrorism legal mechanism,we should emphasize the protection of the human rights of civilians, solving the problems encountered in regional economic development, and to root out the roots of terrorism.
