Abstract

Abstract

This article makes full use of the revised and magnified WANGTao Diary,to go over the Wang Tao's mental process after he went to Shanghai.When he worked in The London Missionary Society Press,his thoughts transformed considerably.Wang Tao was heavily influenced by Confucian culture, but he was curious about Western culture.Additionally, the Treaty Port Intellectual hoped to improve their social status and reputation by the books they translated.Meanwhile,by reviewing Wang Tao's attitude to Christianity and west culture, we can realize his tiny psychological change, in order to have a further observe of his hesitation when he accepted the new culture.Wang Tao's gradually transformation could be seen as a typical paper of many Treaty Port Intellectuals.
