Abstract

Abstract

The study of personal name translation should not be limited to transliteration principles，considering context-triggered complexities such as formal features of translated names，the choice of forms other than names，and so on.Bearing the advantage of a comparatively comprehensive perspective，the Construction-Grammar-based approach is thus introduced.An effort is made to describe E-C translation of personal names within the Constructionism-based model for translation process，and classification is given to both the Chinese correspondence of English name constructions and translation strategies shown in the variety of correspondence.Then the mechanism of strategy selection is presented through an analytic examination of the second stage in translation process—map_-2（the representation of TT）construction.It is proposed that selection of translation strategies is geared to the embodiment of map_-2 built by individual translators，and complexity of personal name translation can be accounted for by the difference of map_-2 construction in dynamic translation contexts.
