Abstract

Abstract

Answer-providing Question is a kind of question with its answer offered by the speaker，not the listener.According to the way the speaker offers the answer，it can be further divided into two subtypes：the explicit-answer-providing question（EAP question）and the implicit-answer-providing question（IAP question）.The existence of IAP question in English public political speeches is the result of mutual choice and interaction between IAP question and the text type，jointly decided by their respective characteristics.IAP question can appear in different parts of the text，even appear in the conclusion part.When it is at the end of an English public political speech，as a kind of unconventional usage，Answer-providing Question has the unique textual organizing functions：when its implied answer can be inferred from previous text，it mainly has the summarizing-continuing function；when its implied answer can be inferred by common sense，it mainly has the summarizing-focusing function.
