The Carnival of Demons—A Case Study of Carnivalesque Elements in Sologub’s The Little Demon

  • Theory of carnivalesque is the poetic theory proposed by Russian scholar Bakhtin, which focuses on carnivalesque features in literary works. Sologub in The Little Demon using the external appearance of carnivalesque elements showed deep evil in human nature and the kinds of human hideous act. And it analyzed the shortcomings of human nature. The whole work is full of darkness and despair, but in a carnival atmosphere a black comic was shielded. Discussion of the works carnival factors for the readers to understand the nature of works has a non-negligible role.
