On the Interpretation of Geographical Images in Classical Ci Poetry-Taking HuaJianJi As the Research Center

    Abstract
  • Geographical image is an important category and perspective for the interpretation of classical Ci. Whether the vocabularies related to the geographical environment in the text can be interpreted from the perspective of the image depends on the degree of impact it has on the expression in Huajianji. There exist several ways to generate geographical images, like fictitious imagination based on literary tradition, image generation based on real space perception and real description of field records. Combining the tradition of the previous generation with unique new perception, the poets express regional spaces like Jiangnan, frontier fortress, Jingchu and Nanyue. The differences in urban images in Huajianji imply the mental differences from poets in their perception of space. The inheritance and breakthrough of later CI poets in the way of choosing geographical images is an important content to comb the evolution of the Millennium Ci history.
