Abstract

Abstract

Yan Fu promoted and abstracted the theory of evolution as a kind of thinking method, which he preliminary put into effect in social realms. But he emphasized a utilitarian interpretation of scientific functions, which would help China to be of wealth and strength. His interpretation initiated modern Chinese to understand the modern science better,but meanwhile it led to a trend of thought called"Scientism"which happened in the 1910s.
