Synergy of Technology and Humanities: Innovative Pathways and Practical Explorations for Cultivating Engineering Talents in the New Era

  • The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has made the strategic deployment of strengthening the synergy between science and technology education and humanities education, pointing out the direction for the reform of higher engineering education. Faced with the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, the logic of talent cultivation is transforming from technology-skill-oriented to comprehensive literacy-oriented. Against this backdrop, breaking down the triple barriers of concepts, disciplines, and systems, and promoting the deep integration and systematic synergy between science and technology education and humanities education have become core issues in cultivating high-quality interdisciplinary engineering talents with solid technical capabilities, profound humanistic heritage, outstanding innovation literacy, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Based on the educational laws of higher engineering education and the requirements for building a national strategic talent team, this paper systematically expounds the contemporary value and theoretical core of the synergistic education of science, technology and humanities, and deeply analyzes the practical dilemmas and their underlying causes in the integration of the two in engineering universities. On this basis, the paper constructs a practical path for synergistic education from three dimensions: reconstruction of the cultivation system, improvement of institutional mechanisms, and construction of faculty capabilities. And it extracts replicable and promotable experiences and insights, aiming to provide theoretical references and practical paradigms for engineering universities in the new era to implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and build a world-class engineer cultivation system with Chinese characteristics.
