The Post-human Condition and the Ecological Crisis: Two Approaches to Understanding the Human Existential Dilemma

  • Technological advances have brought about serious post-human dilemmas and ecological crises along with human well-being, the essence of which lies in how human beings coexist with non-human technological objects and non-human nature, and Bruno Latour’s relativistic monism provides a reference for understanding the entangled and symbiotic relationship among human beings, technology and nature. The post-human panic stems from the misunderstanding of the nature of human beings, who are essentially post-human beings living in symbiosis with technology, and constantly generating their own nature in co-evolution with technology; Bernard Stiegler’s exposition of the relationship between human beings and technology provides insights for solving the post-human predicament. The ecological crisis stems from the excessive exploitation of nature by human beings who have mastered advanced technology, and the view of nature of instrumental rationality has neglected the ecological value of nature and the ecological connection between human and nature, and it is necessary to hold the interdependent relationship between man and nature at the level of symbiosis and interaction. Post-human ecology is a basic overview of the interactive and symbiotic relationship between human beings, technology and nature, rejecting the instrumentalist view of technology and nature and advocating a non-anthropocentric order of existence.
