  • As an outstanding narratologist in the world, David Herman is the advocator of postclassical narratology as well as the initiator of cognitive narratology, one major branch of postclassical narratology. His works and cognitive narrative theory have drawn much scholarly attention abroad, and a wide range of investigations into his works and cognitive narrative theory have been conducted from different perspectives by scholars abroad. By focusing on and reviewing the studies on Herman’s cognitive narrative theory abroad, this paper helps us look into his cognitive narrative theory in a more dialectical way. It is hoped that the paper can work as a useful reference to the study on Herman and contribute to the study on cognitive narratology in China.
