Abstract

Abstract

Three overlapping concepts of story, discourse and narrative can find themselves different in five aspects of basic denotations, mutual relationships, basic assumptions, analysis models, and corresponding types, by examining the semantic and grammatical aspects of those three terms. Such interpretations involve four sets of terms: (1) story, discourse and narrative; (2) narrative discourse, story narrative and narrative story; (3) ecological story, ecological discourse and ecological narrative; (4) story grammar, narrative grammar, functional grammar, and ecological grammar. Those four sets of terms strikingly differ in their corresponding analysis models and corresponding types, reflecting the ecological turn in the fields of narratology and linguistics. Those findings can provide new ideas for integrating ecolinguistics and ecological narratology, and establishing a new framework for the connective knowledge of transdisciplinary ecolinguistics, and providing a new basis for constructing ecological narrative analysis model.
