Abstract:
On May 17, 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the symposium on philosophy and social sciences work (the “May 17 Speech”), in which he explicitly put forward for the first time the strategic task of “accelerating the development of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics”, emphasizing that they should embody Chinese characteristics, style, and ethos in terms of guiding ideology, disciplinary system, academic system, and discourse system. Guided by the spirit of the “May 17 Speech”, this paper systematically expounds the theoretical position of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization as the principal content of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, and reveals its profound foundation rooted in the “Two Integrations”—carrying forward the theoretical foundation of the Marxist view of nature while revitalizing the ecological wisdom of “harmony between humanity and nature” from fine traditional Chinese culture. It analyzes the philosophical foundation of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and demonstrates the theoretical paradigm significance of “a community of life for humanity and nature” as a meta-concept. On this basis, the paper explores the paths to construct China’s independent knowledge system for ecological civilization: achieving a “terminological revolution” with iconic concepts, forging an academic system through disciplinary integration, and enhancing discursive power with a global vision.

2026, 42(5): 9-16. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2026030113
Abstract(1169) HTML (26) PDF(30)
Abstract:
Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization embodies rich implications of a correct understanding of governance performance, encompassing six dimensions: a holistic understanding of governance performance that keeps in mind “the top priorities of the country”; a livelihood-oriented understanding of governance performance that upholds putting people first; a development-oriented understanding of governance performance that practices the “Two Mountains” concept; a pragmatic understanding of governance performance that emphasizes sustained and long-term efforts; a coordinated understanding of governance performance that upholds systematic governance; and a bottom-line understanding of governance performance that strictly safeguards ecological red lines. These six dimensions are interconnected and organically unified. They are grounded in the holistic laws of ecosystems while closely aligning with the orientation of high-quality development and people’s well-being. They provide profound answers to major questions in ecological civilization construction in the new era, namely, “for whom should performance be pursued, what kind of performance should be pursued, and by what means should such performance be achieved”. They offer fundamental guidance for leading officials at all levels to abandon the erroneous understanding of governance performance that seeks quick success and instant benefits or the pursuit of one-sided economic growth. Moreover, they hold significant theoretical value and practical guiding significance for promoting modernization characterized by harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, advancing the construction of a Beautiful China, and realizing the sustainable development of the Chinese nation.

Abstract:
To define and expound the position, significance and value of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization in the evolution of Marxist thought on the relationship between humanity and nature, and even in the history of human environmental thought, and to conduct its scientific theoretical positioning, constitutes an essential requirement for clarifying the connotations of this thought in knowledge systems, academic disciplines and practical guidance. Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization is a landmark achievement in the CPC’s theoretical innovation on ecological civilization. From the perspective of theoretical relevance, it constitutes an important component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, together forming a logically rigorous and systematically comprehensive theoretical system. From the perspective of innovative pathways, it represents a major outcome of applying the “two intergrations” to ecological civilization construction, realizing a new leap in Marxist thought on the relationship between humanity and nature that adapts to the Chinese context and the needs of the times. From the perspective of historical genesis, it elevates the Party’s understanding of the laws of ecological civilization construction to an unprecedented height and opens up the ecological dimension of historical materialism. From the perspective of practical value, it provides fundamental guidance for comprehensively advancing the modernization of harmony between humanity and nature in the Beautiful China Initiative, demonstrating strong ideological leadership in terms of development concepts, construction goals, civilizational dimensions and other aspects. Scientific comprehension of the theoretical positioning of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization is instrumental in advancing the indigenous knowledge system of China’s ecological civilization and informing its practical advancement.

How Are Exchanges and Mutual Learning Between Civilizations Possible?-An Interpretation from the Perspective of Chinese Marxist Cultural View
Yan Kuoming
2026, 42(5): 24-32. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2026040031
Abstract(45) HTML (25) PDF(32)
Abstract:
Under the historical conditions of in-depth advancement of global modernization and continuous formation of a shared world, exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations have increasingly become important theoretical and practical issues that must be addressed in the 21st century. The crux of the issue lies not in eliminating civilizational differences, but in how to construct a realistic and feasible common foundation for the coexistence of diverse civilizations on the premise of acknowledging and preserving differences. Since the New Era, the contemporary Chinese Marxist cultural outlook, based on the “Two Integrations” and represented by Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, has further deepened the understanding of the laws of cultural construction, the development of socialist culture, and the evolution of human civilization. It adheres to understanding cultural and civilizational issues from the perspective of history, practice and global connections, opposes the dissolution of civilizational differences through abstract universality, and opposes the absolutization of civilizational differences as closed boundaries, thereby providing a systematic theoretical perspective for explaining the possibility of exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations. Specifically, cultural subjectivity constitutes the premise of civilizational dialogue, enabling different civilizations to engage in equal exchanges based on their own historical experiences and value structures; openness and inclusiveness constitute the basic stance of mutual learning between civilizations, preventing civilizational relations from sliding into homogenization and conflict; the common values of all mankind provide a normative medium for different civilizations to conduct value communication and reach practical consensus on common issues; building a community with a shared future for mankind further advances this value consensus into a practical form of real-world cooperation, shared destinies and order reshaping. This theoretical approach not only reveals the internal logic that makes exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations possible, but also offers a Chinese perspective for diverse civilizations in the contemporary world to achieve mutual understanding, mutual recognition and common development.

2026, 42(5): 49-55. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2026040081
Abstract(26) HTML (11) PDF(8)
Abstract:
The understanding of governance performance is the concrete manifestation of the worldview, outlook on life, and values of Party members and officials in their governance practice, which pertains to the Party's commitment to building itself for the public good and exercising power for the people. Conducting in-depth study and education on fostering and practicing a correct understanding of governance performance, and thoroughly grasping its hierarchical structure, are of great theoretical and practical significance. This article attempts to interpret the correct understanding of governance performance from three levels: “fulfilling one’s duties, achieving tangible results, and serving the cause without seeking personal credit.” Only by correctly recognizing the distinct characteristics and evolutionary patterns of the correct understanding of governance performance at different levels can we better strengthen Party spirit cultivation, grasp objective laws, improve institutional mechanisms, and continuously enhance the cognition and practice of the correct understanding of governance performance.

An Lu, Wang Wenwen
2026, 42(5): 56-63. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2025110081
Abstract(22) HTML (12) PDF(9)
Abstract:
Promoting the deep integration of Party building and professional work in university faculty Party branches is the key to fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and solving the problem of disconnection between primary-level Party building and professional work in the new era. The deep integration of Party building and professional work in university faculty Party branches is essentially the organic combination of Party building and professional work across three dimensions of value, organization, and mechanism, with its internal logic embodied in value alignment, organizational isomorphism, and mechanism synchronization. However, in reality, university faculty Party branches still face deep-seated dilemmas such as cognitive embeddedness failure, structural embeddedness failure, institutional embeddedness failure, and the failure of multi-embeddedness synergy, which constrain the effective release of integration effectiveness. This requires adopting the perspective of organizational embeddedness theory to construct a three-dimensional analytical framework of “value, organization, and mechanism,” systematically explaining the connotation and internal logic of the deep integration of Party building and professional work in university faculty Party branches, and, based on an examination of practical dilemmas, exploring the practical paths for building a “Five-type Synergy” Party branch. The construction of such branches can facilitate the transition of Party building and professional work from physical combination to chemical integration, and achieve a deep integration pattern characterized by value alignment, organizational isomorphism, and mechanism synchronization.

2026, 42(5): 64-70. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2026020007
Abstract(33) HTML (17) PDF(6)
Abstract:
In the context of the deep integration of the digital governance wave and educational digitalization strategies, artificial intelligence (AI) presents a historic opportunity for the paradigm shift in the construction of university student Party branches. Grounded in digital governance theory, this paper systematically explores the connotation evolution, logical mechanisms, and practical pathways of AI-empowered construction of university student Party branches. This study believes that empowering the construction of university student Party branches with artificial intelligence, in essence, is to use AI methods to address the issue of how student Party branches can achieve a governance transformation from standardized management to precise education under conditions of high member turnover and active thinking among young Party members; AI empowerment is mainly reflected in the evolution of connotations in three dimensions: organization, function, and system; its internal logic lies in the deepening of concepts driven by educational goals, the optimization of mechanisms driven by information needs, and the upgrading of paradigms driven by quality objectives. On this basis, this study constructs a closed-loop practical pathway characterized by precise evaluation to guide direction, data fusion to consolidate the foundation, institutional norms to ensure operation, and a human-centered orientation to realize value, thereby providing theoretical reference and practical guidance for improving the quality of Party construction among university students in the new era.

Zhang Feng, Zhang Xian, Liu Danhe
2026, 42(5): 71-83. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2025060021
Abstract(37) HTML (13) PDF(6)
Abstract:
Collaborative education between ideological and political theory course teachers and counselors in universities serves as a strategic measure to deepen the integration of ideological and political theory courses with daily ideological and political education, and also acts as a key link in advancing the integration of ideological and political education in universities. To thoroughly explore and clarify the influencing factors of the effectiveness of collaborative education of the two groups, break down coordination barriers and optimize collaborative operation mechanisms, this study conducted a questionnaire survey among 246 ideological and political theory course teachers and 269 counselors from 86 universities nationwide, and adopted hierarchical regression analysis to test the influencing factors of the effectiveness of collaborative education of the two groups. The results show that the overall level of collaborative education between ideological and political theory course teachers and counselors is favorable. Both groups exhibit distinct characteristics in their educational practices, and the levels of various dimensions of collaborative education show significant differences in terms of gender, age, institutional level, communication frequency and platform construction. Meanwhile, educational capability, functional positioning, willingness to collaborate, educational methods and institutional environment are identified as key factors influencing the effectiveness of collaborative education. Based on these results, recommendations are proposed: reforming the educational institutional system to deepen the integration of ideological and political education with talent cultivation; constructing smart ideological and political platforms to optimize communication mechanisms; precisely defining the functions of counselors to strengthen identity recognition; and deeply understanding teachers’ differences to stimulate motivation for collaboration. These measures aim to achieve qualitative improvements and sustained development in collaborative education outcomes.
An Exploration of the Graduate Supervisor-Student Relationship from the Perspective of SRC Theory of Interpersonal Emotion Regulation
Zhou Jianglin, Hu Na
2026, 42(5): 84-91. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2025090029
Abstract(30) HTML (11) PDF(4)
Abstract:
A harmonious supervisor-student relationship serves as an important mediator in fostering graduate students’ mental health, improving educational quality, and establishing China as a world leader in graduate education. Interpersonal emotion regulation functions as a fundamental psychological safeguard for such relationships. From the perspective of the Social Regulation Cycle (SRC) theory, this study identifies specific deficiencies across different regulation stages in graduate supervisor-supervisee relationships: weakened emotional bonding, limited emotional cognitive capacity, rigid regulation strategies, and suboptimal internal support structures. To address these issues, targeted interventions are required in accurately identifying emotions, enhancing emotional cognition, refining regulation strategies, and improving the support system.
Research on the “Slow Employment” Phenomenon among Students in Science and Engineering Universities from the Perspective of New Engineering
Yang Zhida
2026, 42(5): 92-98. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2026030083
Abstract(35) HTML (13) PDF(8)
Abstract:
From the perspective of the new engineering, “slow employment” has become a noteworthy new phenomenon among students in science and engineering universities. Based on human capital and social support theories, this study establishes a four-dimensional analysis framework covering “individual-school-family-society”. With reference to questionnaire survey data, it systematically analyzes the behavioral characteristics, influencing factors, and governance pathways of “slow employment” among students in science and engineering universities. The research finds that affected by the misalignment between educational supply and industrial demand, differentiated family support conditions, and macro-level institutional environment adjustments, students’ choices for “slow employment” are primarily driven by rational planning for their long-term personal development. Given that the phenomenon of “slow employment” results from combined multiple driving factors, this study proposes systematic governance pathway recommendations from four dimensions: empowering individuals, innovating cultivation approaches, fostering consensus, and optimizing the ecosystem, aiming to provide valid references for high-quality cultivation of new engineering talents and improvement of employment guidance services.

Systematic Reconstruction of Grounds for Revocation of Guardianship Qualification
Dou Haiyang, Wang Zhen
2026, 42(5): 108-118. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2026030002
Abstract(22) HTML (9) PDF(6)
Abstract:
With respect to the deficiencies in China’s legal provisions on the revocation of guardianship qualifications and the related issues in judicial practice, the grounds for revocation can be categorized and systematically explained based on the binary logic of “acts and states” that trigger changes in guardianship relations. In typological construction, conduct-based grounds for revocation can be divided into active and passive forms, and further into specific categories according to whether property rights or personal rights are infringed; state-based grounds for revocation can be classified into four types—serious illness, financial condition, restriction of freedom, and social morality—each corresponding to certain case types. In systematic interpretation, the specific content and applicable relations of the basic norms should be followed to accurately match the typologized grounds for revocation, while the standards for determination should be properly established by reference to both normative purposes and practical circumstances. The typological construction of revocation grounds and the systematic interpretation of norms must be coordinated throughout the entire process, so as to construct a system for judging grounds for revocation of guardianship qualifications suitable for China’s civil law.
Study on Spoliation of Evidence in Criminal Proceedings and its Legal Regulation-Taking Civil Proceedings as Reference
Hu Jia
2026, 42(5): 119-128. doi: 10.19979/j.cnki.issn10082689.2025090123
Abstract(26) HTML (11) PDF(14)
Abstract:
Based on the requirements of evidence-based adjudication and the human nature of seeking benefits and avoiding harm, spoliation of evidence frequently occurs in the context of adversarial litigation. Both civil and administrative litigation in China contain provisions regulating spoliation of evidence, while criminal litigation pays less attention to this issue. This stems from widespread trust in prosecutors’ fulfillment of their objective duties, an unwavering pursuit of factual truth, and the incomplete establishment of criminal trial authority. Spoliation of evidence in criminal proceedings allows the party with evidence to unfairly occupy a favorable position in the trial by utilizing its resource advantages, violating the principle of equality between prosecution and defense. If adjudicators simply rely on the burden of proof to make a judgment when proof is difficult or impossible, it may disadvantage the obstructed party and undermine judicial fairness. To uphold procedural fairness and avoid factual impediments caused by spoliation of evidence, it is necessary to introduce and refine the theory of spoliation of evidence in criminal litigation. The legal norms in U.S. law imposing adverse consequences on parties committing the spoliation of evidence also provide comparative legal references. In practical implementation, the legitimacy of the spoliation of evidence and the importance of the spoliated evidence should be considered. Adverse inferences can be drawn using rules of thumb to form the judge’s inner conviction. Provisions such as Article 73 of the Interpretation of the Criminal Procedure Law have already provided foundational principles for adjudication in this regard.
