Abstract

Discourse markers are the linguistic means that provide contextual coordinates for ongoing discourse.Discourse markers such as well, now and then are known for their coherence and deictic function, highlighting the complexity of their discourse markers, functions in different contextual coordinates.As contextual coordinates, discourse markers may be conducive to the enhancement of coherence, but they are not indispensable coherent devices.Discourse markers such as well, now and then are considered as multi-functional context clues.
