  • This paper studies the acceptance characteristics of foreign literature in China, through an analysis of "Updike in China(1975~1985)". The author found that translators and researchers had a strong critical sense, which was mainly shown by their effort in trying to let readers understand the fraud of American society and even western social system through the works. This critical sence came from their social responsibility and self-confidence and related to their status in the society.
