Based on Kress & van Leeuwen's (2006) grammar of visual design and Nikolajeva & Scott's (2000) distinction of image-text relations, this paper describes and analyzes the image-text relations in two versions of Little Red Riding Hood.It is found that the symmetrical and complementary relations exist in both versions, but in different ways.Besides, this paper also investigates other aspects of image-text relations which affect children's understanding of the story. It is hoped that this study will provide some implications on the teaching of English picture books.
