The Conversion of Conceptual Structures in Pragmatics-oriented C-E Translation

This paper discusses pragmatics-oriented translation，which concerns the theory and practice of translation from the pragmatic perspectives.The key issue of pragmatics-oriented translation is how to translate for the target-language reader，and get a shift of equivalent effects from the source text to the target one.To realize this，the target text should be done in consideration of“three dimensions”：the writer，translator and audience.It is necessary to pay attention to the ways of thinking and the conversion of conceptual structures in the process of translation.Expounding the contrasts between Chinese and English，I find that in translation process different conceptual structures exist due to the diversities of culture.In order to convert the source text into the target one appropriately，we must ponder upon the possibility of one concept having different conceptual structures，and，thus，accordingly，different language structures should be used in translation.Finally，this paper stresses that，as native Chinese translators engaging in C-to-E translation，we must do more translation practice，and in contrastive studies between the two languages acquire a good grasp of conceptual structures existing due to the different ways of thinking.Only by so doing，will we be able to select appropriate language structures for the target text，and achieve a shift of equivalent effects between the two languages.
