Based on the category of Engagement and the relevant researches about text organization, this paper attempts to carry out an exploration of the evaluative organization patterns of Engagement in the Chinese prose
The Bird of Prey. It indicates that with the dynamic development of the text, relevant Engagement units can form an evaluative chain. Those units are affected by the semantic factors of the source of voice, the proposition appraised, the Engagement category and the appraised value. The formation and the interaction between different Engagement chains play a notable role in determining text purpose and structure.
