Metadiscourse is an important means for speakers and listeners, or writers and readers, to interact through spoken or written discourse.As an established concept, metadiscourse continues to attract researchers in applied linguistics, pragmatics and discourse analysis.Using CiteSpace, this study presents a scientometric analysis of international and domestic metadiscourse research in an attempt to reveal the trajectory of its development and the latest research findings.The results show that currently China's metadiscourse research is developing as quickly as international metadiscourse research; metadiscourse research is divided into two models:Interpersonal and Reflective; the most studied areas include academic English, discourse markers, and second language writing.The trends of metadiscourse research are also discussed.
