Abstract

The relationship between moral concept and natural concept is an important topic in meta-ethics, and the argument of open question is one of the classic arguments of non-naturalistic position. From the perspective of HPC theory, ethical classes and natural classes are both homeostatic attribute cluster types, and ethical concepts have the same definition structure as natural concepts, so moral naturalism avoids the “naturalistic fallacy”. There should be a causal relationship between the intrinsic attributes of HPC terms, but two thought experiments on the concept of “good” prove that the concept of “good” is not suitable for inductive reasoning, which means that the concept of “good” is difficult to have the necessary conditions to become a HPC concept. Thick ethical concepts are more likely to become HPC terms because of their rich descriptive content. This paper tries to define the thick ethical concept as HPC concept and determine its clustering properties in order to maintain the naturalness of some ethical concepts.
