Review and Prospect of Research on Postgraduate Tutor Ability in China (1997−2020)

  • In recent years, with the rapid expansion of the graduate enrollment scale and the rapid development of graduate education, the issue of tutor ability has become a hot focus of academic attention. Using the literature research method and visual knowledge map, this paper systematically combs 175 Chinese core journals published from 1997 to 2020, to summarize the origin, connotation and dimensions of graduate tutor ability. Also, we have clarified the three evolution stages of graduate tutor ability research and refined four types of research hot topics. Then, an in-depth analysis of the influencing factors, mechanism and effect of graduate tutor ability has been done. Finally, it points out the deficiencies of existing research and discusses the future research direction. This research is helpful for domestic scholars to explore the ability of graduate tutors from a holistic perspective, and it is also of great significance to improve the tutor ability and the quality of graduate training in reality.
