ZHANG Wei, LI Jing
2016, 32(2): 1-7.
Abstract(431) PDF(12)
Abstract:
Appraisal System consists of Attitude,Engagement and Graduation, all of which are closely related to stylistic features as well as aesthetic values. Hence,Appraisal System is also associated with translation practice and translation criticism. The key of translating Chinese poems lies in the transfer of original "aesthetic value" into its corresponding target text. However, due to individual differences, the translators may hold a disparate attitude with that of the writer. This paper, with the examples of three versions of Chaitoufeng, attempts to identify the similarities and discrepancies of aesthetic and ethnic viewpoints between writers and translators, provide practical criteria in evaluating the quality of translated works, and probe into the cultural and aesthetic characteristics loaded in Appraisal System.

YANG Bing-jun, HU Dong-ming
2016, 32(2): 8-15.
Abstract(441) PDF(23)
Abstract:
Once regarded as two isolated concepts by many scholars, language and emotion were usually studied within the fields of philosophy, psychology and linguistics respectively. Neuroscience and artificial intelligence,in recent years, have developed very fast but at the same time encountered the unsurpassable barriers,i. e.,language and emotion. As a consequence,an increasing attention has been shifted to the relationship between language and emotion. This study is intended to present a sketch of the studies of language and emotion so as to build a view of the co-constructing relationship between language and emotion, which may provide clues and perspectives for future studies in this area.

YU Hui, LIU Meng
2016, 32(2): 16-23.
Abstract(319) PDF(11)
Abstract:
In institutional education, different subjects are marked off by their own disciplinary knowledge;language,as the main media of knowledge transmission,is vital for educational practices. We start by reviewing the disciplinary dialogue between Bernsteinian sociology and functional linguistics and Martin's discussion of field and ideation. Based on a case study on spoken and written history, this paper attempts to analyse the differences in ideational system for the "recontextualised" discourses in terms of classification, grammatical metaphor and causal relation. It is suggested that the spoken history is more of "story",while the written history tries every means to distance us from the retrievable past.

ZHAO Jing
2016, 32(2): 24-30.
Abstract(309) PDF(14)
Abstract:
Accompanied by the rising of multilingual communications, multilingual studies and the proposing of appliable linguistics,Systemic-functional Translation Studies(SFTS) has become an increasingly important branch in language-based translation studies. SFTS in the new era fully relies on systemic functional linguistics, adopts a multi-dimensional holistic view, proposes a comprehensive theory, employs corpus-based empirical methodology, and emphasizes on a mutual study between linguistics and translation studies. Having been expanded in both width and depth,SFTS has become a cross-disciplinary,multiperspective and multi-dimensional field of study. This paper summarizes and comments on its achievements and new features in the recent decade, and points out its future development trends.

QIU Jing-na, ZHANG Jing-yuan
2016, 32(2): 31-35.
Abstract(480) PDF(19)
Abstract:
Increasing translation of Chinese Classics calls for more attention to translation evaluation. Within the framework of context theory in Systemic Functional Linguistics, this paper, taking "ku" in the first chapter of The Analects as an example, integrates macro-analysis with bottom-up analysis to research on the intra-lingual translation model of controversial chapters. It is found that context reconstruction can help to solve the ambiguity involved. Based on this research, "ku" herein should be translated as "being shallow" rather than "being firm".

GAO Sheng-wen, WANG Min-chen
2016, 32(2): 36-45.
Abstract(317) PDF(11)
Abstract:
Previous studies of phase mainly focus on one language. They aim to reveal the relationship between features of phase and classifications of verbs, but usually neglect the distinction between simple phase and complex phase. From the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics, this study distinguishes simple phase from complex phase, and points out that simple phase refers to the internal temporal feature of a clause which is only revealed by the clausal element realizing the process meaning. Based on this concept, the present study makes a comparison of realizations of simple phase in English and Chinese, and finds that there are similarities and differences between them.

YANG Qiu-hong
2016, 32(2): 100-108.
Abstract(359) PDF(12)
Abstract:
"Dressing" (披秉) in Chronicle of Brothels by Xia Tingzhi inYuan Dynasty became "Robe and Wat" (披袍秉笏) in Taihe Pronunciation Spectrum by Zhu Quan in Ming Dynasty, with the note of "drama of the monarch and his subjects". "Green Clothes and Slips" (绿衣秉简) in dramas of Tang,Song and Jin Dynasties is the direct source of "Clothes and Wat" (襕衫秉笏) in dramas of Yuan Dynasty, but "Robe" (披袍) has another source. "Dressing" of Yuan dramas is the clothes of officials, but "Robe" and "Wat" in dramas of Ming Dynasty obviously have a distinction between the civil and military roles. Therefore, the drama of "Robe and Wat" is the civil and military drama rather than the drama of the monarch and his subjects.

ZHANG You-guo, FENG Yu-li
2016, 32(2): 109-117.
Abstract(313) PDF(12)
Abstract:
With the emergence of ideological vacuum after the disintegration of the former Soviet Union,Hizbut-Tahrir began to revive in the Central Asia of the former Soviet Union, and has the momentum into the Central Asia. The most obvious features of the activities of Hizbut-Tahrir in the Central Asia are the anti-government and separatist activities in the field of ideology spread by religious extremist ideology. There are many complex reasons for the rise of the Hizbut-Tahrir in the Central Asia. Such as,the ideological vacuum after the collapse of the former USSR and harsh economic conditions provided the space and infrastructure for the emergence of Hizbut-Tahrir in the area;the share with power imbalances is a certain relationship;what's more, the relative deprivation theory, resource mobilization theory and social mobilization theory are very vital factors. In a word, given the current situation for the Hizbut-Tahrir,it is necessary for the Central Asian countries to do a full range of trade-offs in the aspects about political, economic, legal, etc. And they can safeguard the national and social stability, and prevent the politicization of religion.
