Abstract:
In the past decade, America researchers have achieved greatly in the application study of Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL) in the field of education and teaching, and with their own features. Based on SFL, they carried out the research from various aspects and the topics involved are basic issues in teaching. In the application process, they tend to simplify theory and modify it for easy use. Their research is very purposeful, usually for solving local problems in school, and following one study, a series of more studies are often carried out. As a consequence, their research is very systematic and thorough.

Abstract:
According to the six function types defined by systemic functional grammar and the“process function”(Process = Finite+ Event), the core element of the function is the event, so, if there exist six types of function(material and mental, verbal and behavioral, existential and relational), there exist six types of event(physical and psychological, verbal and behavioral, existential and relational). In a complex process, one event constitutes a state of affair or an eventuality of another event. This phenomenon is referred to as eventualization, which gives rise to two roles of the event in its actual linguistic use, i.e., process event and eventual event. For the research on the process, the event is the focus; for the research on the event, the combinatory relation between different events is the major concern. The present research concentrates on the combination of different material events, analyzes their differentiation and re-organization, and makes an empirical demonstration with linguistic data relevant to the event BEGIN taken from the British National Corpus. It aims to make a functional semantic exploration into the event as a whole.

Comparative Study of Grammatical Metaphor in Chinese and Foreign Academic Discourses

Abstract:
Grammatical metaphor is an important feature of academic discourses. This study selected the English abstracts published in a Chinese academic journal and a foreign one concerning marine science and established two corpora. Based on the Systemic Functional Linguistics, thirteen kinds of grammatical metaphors in the two corpora were identified and calculated. The statistical results showed that the two corpora contained a large number of grammatical metaphors, especially the kinds No. 1, 2, 5, 6 and 13. But in terms of the frequency, the two corpora had a clear difference. Abstracts in the foreign journal contained more grammatical metaphors than those in the Chinese one. This partly reflects some differences between Chinese researchers and foreign ones in the English writing. The results also give us some hints on how to carry out the ensuing longitudinal research concerning the development of English writing of Chinese students under the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics.

A Corpus-based Study on Nominalizations in Argumentative Essays of Chinese EFL Learners

Abstract:
This paper examines and studies the use of lexical and syntactic nominalizations in the argumentative writings by Chinese EFl learners of science and engineering, with a comparison to a native English corpus. The studies find that, on the lexical level, the use of nominalizations by Chinese EFL learners tends to be inadequate as well as excessive. High frequency of repetition leads directly to the excessive use of normalizations; on the syntactic level, the normalizations realized by Wh- clauses are overused, while Adj.+ Prep.+ V-ing structures are underused. The qualitative analysis reveals that only a handful of Chinese EFL learners of science and engineering can use nominalization properly whereas a majority of them do not realize the active functions of normalizations, the consequence of which is a lack of coherence, an element of subjectivity and a distinct oral style in their writing.The findings of the study may contribute to English lexical and writing teaching of science and engineering students in China.

Abstract:
The study, taking systemic functional linguisticsas a basis, aims to analyze usage features of participant nominal group from the type and the pre-modifier perspectives. The result that many transcategorization and technical terms are adopted shows abstractness, technicality and complexity of academic texts. The statistical result of a few compress proves that nominalized groups are mainly considered as references of abstract entities but seldom as the packing of a clause and information development resource. The result that dectic covers a majority in pre-modifiers, but less epithet and lest classifier shows the decrease of objectivity and abstractness, hence dynamic andinstantial features of academic texts.

Based on systemic functional linguistics, an analysis of ideational, textual and interpersonal meanings of history discourse is conducted, and then the ways of applying systemic functional linguistics to history discourse analysis from transitivity, theme and appraisal resources are illustrated, which demonstrates the role of process verbs, participants and circumstances in the construction of ideational meaning of history discourse; the role of theme, nominalization and conjunction in the construction of textual meaning of history discourse; the role of appraisal resources in the construction of interpersonal meaning. Applying systemic functional linguistics to history discourse analysis is of great importance to the improvement of English language learners' history literacy.

Based on the 54 letters from the landless peasants, the paper summarizes the main expressive methods of their interests and the results of feedback, analyses the reasons for their blocked appeals, seeks the effective methods to solve the plight of their interest expression from the perspective of the rule of“different pattern”with the related case analysis.

The emperors transplanted the imaginary fairy mountains in the literary works into the royal gardens in Beijing. What's more,the representation should show national disaster,fission of human nature,and can console the people,and rouse national spirit. With the way of fiction and realism,Zhang Henshui's novel River of No Return represented the horrific scene of the Rape of Nanking,and shaped military images such as Sun Zhijian,Jiang Hong,etc. and recreated their patriotism and rebellious spirit which can rouse national spirit.

Edward Bond's Bingo is a play of milestone value for Shakespeare study. It depicts Shakespeare as a self-reproached loser with nihility after retiring from public life, which has stirred up lasting arguments in western academia since its premier. To adopt the approach of new historicism to analyze Shakespeare's dilemma of choice making, a literary giant's inability in the course of historical change secures the round character of a secular William. Nevertheless, the use of “drama event”helps to achieve the tension of interpretation and enriches its thematic meaning. Bingo is a play of great referential value to the innovation of Chinese drama.

This paper reviews the development process and the main achievements of the national university science park in China. By analyzing the similarities and differences, the current problems of University Science Park in China are investigated, for example, the contradictory innovation position, function vagueness, imperfect innovation incentives, limited innovation service capacity and others. Based on the analysis of the policies and business models of the university science parks in Beijing and Shanghai,we propose countermeasures and suggestions to improve the innovation ability and service level of the university science parks in three aspects:strengthening the government's guiding role,relying on the universities as the bases and exerting the science park's own initiative.

The paper takes urban competitiveness of talents in science and technology as the research object, analyzes the connotation and constituent elements of urban competitiveness of talents in science and technology, and establishes an assessment index system, assesses the competitiveness of talents in science and technology of four municipalities directly under the central government using the comprehensive index method based on AHP. The assessment results show that the competitiveness of talents in science and technology of four municipalities directly under the central government is sorted into Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Chongqing.
