Abstract:
In late 80's and early 90's of last century, many Chinese famous colleges and universities chose to change their names, and University of Science and Technology Beijing is one of them.Professor Wang Run as the last president of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology and the first president of University of Science and Technology Beijing, witnessed the whole process of the school renaming.In this paper, professor Wang was interviewed about the causes, the whole process, the social background and the influence of the name changing.Through this case Chinese higher education reform in the period of social transformation is shown a glimpse.

Abstract:
In recent years, college English teaching has made achievements under multimodal teaching environments.However, not all semiotic resources are well used and some of them are less efficiently conducted because some college English teachers lack a better understanding of the uses and functions of semiotic resources in the creation of meanings in classroom teaching.Therefore, the paper, mainly based on Multimodal Discourse Analysis, aims to explore the applicability of multimodality and the uses of semiotic resources in promoting college English teaching.The study tries to identify and discuss the effective methods of integrating verbal, visual, audial, nonverbal behaviors and other types of semiotics in English teaching classes in order to promote the in-depth development of the reform of English teaching.

The paper, within the framework of multimodal discourse analysis, based on the multimodal generic structure of classroom foreign language teaching and the choice and corresponding combination of models, qualitatively describes the videos of 12 contestants in the 2nd National College English Teaching Contest.The study generalizes about the generic structure, choice and combination of models for foreign language teaching competition.The findings might be reliable reference for competition grading and classroom teaching.

Abstract:
Based on Kress & van Leeuwen's (2006) grammar of visual design and Nikolajeva & Scott's (2000) distinction of image-text relations, this paper describes and analyzes the image-text relations in two versions of Little Red Riding Hood.It is found that the symmetrical and complementary relations exist in both versions, but in different ways.Besides, this paper also investigates other aspects of image-text relations which affect children's understanding of the story.It is hoped that this study will provide some implications on the teaching of English picture books.

In recent years, scholars began to focus on multimodal discourse analysis of comics, but mostly they conduct a general analysis of the three metafunctions:representational function, interactional function and compositional function, which cannot fully reveal the ideational meaning of the comics.On the other hand, most of the researches take political comics as the object of analysis, and less research is on the comics in other genres.Therefore, this paper, based on the multimodal discourse analysis, takes a comic strip from PHD Comics as a case study and explores the representational meaning reflected from this comic strip, hoping to promote the application of multimodal discourse analysis to the study of the comics.

Abstract:
This paper explores multi-modal teaching in appreciating classic American TV series with the aid of computer and network.This teaching model consists of multi-modal teaching resources, multi-modal teaching activities and multi-modal teaching environment.To test the practicality of this teaching model, a questionnaire is designed to collect the students' responses to this course.The findings indicate the feasibility and effectiveness of this teaching model and provide enlightenment for courses of appreciating English movie and TV series.

Kelsen's theory of basic norm draws consistent and eager attention in the fields of sociological science, such as politics, law, morality, etc.This article is to focus on several important issues in the theory, including:basic norm as the tool of transforming the categories from “is” to “ought”, basic norm as non-positivistic presupposition and hypothesis, basic norm as criterion of defining legal order and identifying membership of norm, basic norm as the product of doctrine of natural law and quasi-legal positivism.In this way, the author aims to analyze the important task undertaken by basic norm and the necessary improvement of the theory of basic norm.

Intuition is considered to provide materials to rational knowledge and low awareness of rational first-class way.Artistic intuition of poetics is also considered as a cognition mode of emotion which is opposite to rationality.Maritain's “creative intuition” changed the traditional concept of aesthetic intuition and found the characteristics of rational understanding in artistic intuition under the guidance of the rational theology.Based on this characteristic, “creative intuition” is a form of emotion. “Creative intuition” also showes the creativity and transcendence which tending to the “God” of the soul.

In his Su Wen Zhong Gong Shi He Zhu, according to the old annotations of Su Shi's poems from Song to Qing Dynasty, Feng Yingliu made a comprehensive literature review.First of all he deleted the redundant annotations, reasonably reordered some annotations, added the missing annotations, checked the original book, and corrected the errors in the quotations.Secondly, Feng Yingliu collected many poems of Su Shi which lost in many kinds of literature.Furthermore, he researched some poems which belonged to Su Shi and other poets at the same time, and pointed out that a majority of these poems were not composed by Su Shi.In addition, he also made a textual research on the old Su Shi's chronicle, corrected the errors about the deeds of Su Shi, the chronological sequences of Su Shi's poems, and the deeds of Song Dynasty.Su Wen Zhong Gong Shi He Zhu has important philological value.

Shi Dao‘an’s thought for sutra translation experienced a developmental process from ambiguity to increasingly clarity.Namely, before he entered Chang'an, the capital, Shi Dao‘an’s attitude that the Chinese translation of Sutra should be ornamented or unornamented was not quite clear but ambiguous.After he entered Chang'an, however, in order to regulate and guide the sutra translation, his attitude became increasingly clear, namely, he advocated that the Chinese version should be unornamented and unabridged, and he obviously opposed the deletion and ornamentedness in Chinese translation, with the exception of quite limited flexibility.

Based on the price-volume relation, the paper explains the distribution of the rate of return using the distribution of volume.We respectively discuss the relationship between the expected volume and the rate of return, and the unexpected volume and the rate of return.It is found that there is a significant positive correlation between the trading volume and the rate of returns, and that the rate of return can explain the effect on expected trading volume and unexpected trading volume, and either expected trading volume or unexpected trading volume can explain the effect on the rate of return.The volume in the data shows no obvious effect on the rate of return, but from the statistical characteristics, the distribution of the former can explain the distribution of the latter.
