A Study of Chinese “Verb-complement Constructions” from the Perspective of the Cardiff Grammar

Abstract:
Within the framework of the Cardiff Grammar, this paper investigates “verb-complement constructions” in modern Mandarin Chinese with the aim of revealing the differences in the realization of the clausal meaning and in the componence of the syntactic elements. Based on the principle of “form realizing meaning and meaning being primary”, the paper presents a new description of the generally-acknowledged seven types of Chinese “verb-complement constructions”. It shows that some “complements” help the Main Verbs in clauses to realize the Process meanings, and hence they are taken as Main Verb Extensions in the syntactic structures of the concerned clauses. Some express the degrees of the meanings realized by the apexes in quality groups, and hence they are considered as degree temperers in quality groups. Some are indicative of mood, modality and polarity meanings of clauses, and hence they are described as Operators. And others are suggestive of Participant roles in the processes of the concerned clauses, and hence they are regarded as Complements. Meanwhile, the paper explores the functions of the Chinese character “de” in “verb-complement constructions”. It indicates that “de” is the Deriver/deriver element in clauses or quality groups, and that it makes the meanings of the derived elements oriented at the Main Verbs or Subjects in the concerned clauses, or at the apexes in the concerned quality groups.

Abstract:
The Discourses and Sayings of Confucius is the footstone of traditional Chinese culture. Its translation and dissemination are closely connected with personal experience and social background of its translator. Meanwhile, due to different translation purposes, translation of the same text is supposed to adopt different translating methods and strategies. In his paper, the author studied free translation and translating strategy of domestication employed by Ku Hung-ming in The Discourses and Sayings of Confucius by making an analysis of social background and personal experience of Ku Hung-ming. It is pointed out that translation of traditional cultural classics of The Discourses and Sayings of Confucius is a comprehensive issue. Adopting translating strategy of domestication is helpful to carrying forward traditional Chinese culture and national spirit and promoting cultural exchanges between China and Western countries.

Abstract:
A Cognitive Linguistics-oriented CDA starts from but goes beyond the linguistic usage to the underlying cognitive activities to deconstruct or reconstruct the process in which the discourse producer legalizes the in-group ideology by manipulating conceptualization of readers. Discourse is the product of particular ideology. The different representations of conceptualization in a discourse, including metaphor, metonymy, attention, subjectivity of observer, are loaded with unequal power relations and thus manifest coherence with the ideology of the particular discourse.

Abstract:
Basil Bernstein's sociological pedagogy places language at its first place,attempting to explore social issues such as education failure, cultural reproduction, the construction of pedagogic discourse and the alike. One of the main forces of its research comes from Systemic Functional Linguistics represented by M. A. K. Halliday and Ruquia Hasan. This paper is going to review their study on Bernstein's code theory and then tries to excavate the theoretical foundations and practices for the dialogue between code theory and Systemic Functional Linguistics so as to construe the nature and meaning of code from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics.

Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology is a typical representative of the single industrial institutes at the initial stage of new China. The paper summarizes phenomena of education,talent and culture of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology(1952-1966) from five respects of subject construction,talent traning,scientific research,faculty and campus culture. The research methods will undoubtedly contribute to the understanding of the immigration characteristics and the patterns. The paper only makes a comparative study on the similarities and dissimilarities of the migrations of“ Jiangxi filling in Huguang” and “ Huguang filling in Sichuan ”, and puts forward different ideas on some of the academic point of view, to arouse the interest of the circles concerned.

Abstract:
The graduates of literature and art accept the western literary theory in two ways:searching literature and reading. The former aims at professional knowledge,similar to the importation of advanced products;the latter lays stress on theoretical thinking ability,meaning to grasp the core technology.“Reading” contains three specific meanings and its connotation is different with the usual sense. First,read classic books rather than searching information with the consciousness in the theoretical thinking ability as the core;second,after reading books to be able to “ report number ”,making clear what the books say and why they say so,this is the basic embodiment of theoretical thinking ability;third, based on these knowledge,the students can make a judgment of their own theses. If the students read books so,their thesis writing must be smooth,and the quality of the theses must be remarkable;otherwise it will be opposite.

Based on the story of “The Ballad of Mulan”,Disney made the feature film “Mulan” and successfully conducted the second-degree creation. This paper summarizes the origin of Mulan's story and the adaptation in the form of drama, analyzing the plot reconstruction and character image reconstruction in the movie “Mulan”.

The question of how to explain the Holocaust is controversial. The absolutism claims universal truth and standard. The relativism emphasizes the context of different standards,there is no universal standard and moral rules. The characteristic of pluralism is opposing both single-track explanation of the absolutism and extreme relativism. On the question of how to explain the Holocaust,the American historical philosopher Hayden White's change indicates that the relativism has limits. The pluralism and relativism is progressive,but there are also some problems.

Abstract:
In the development of the short story,a transformation emerged from the legendary focusing on plot to the authenticity on emotion. Hometown and My Uncle Jules are two classic short stories selected in the Chinese Textbooks of middle school. They have similarities in the structure, namely they have completed the ring structure of emotion conversion. But they are different in the artistic pursuit and value orientation in the style. As a traditional novelist,Maupassant paid more attention to the plots of the story,and to the perfection, exquisiteness and integrality of the structure. But the prose tendency in Lu Xun's novels is obvious, which are concise and meaningful in language and rich in emotional connotation and in angles of explanation. This not only reflects the different artistic pursuit and creation tendency of the two writers,but also shows different characteristics of their artistic talent.

With the statistical data from the relevant local government departments, and through investigation, this paper puts forward in the village collective income difficulties,under the constraints of financial input of government,the construction of rural infrastructure,public welfare and social service promotion may form a new collective debt. In this regard,it is needed to feel out the base number of debt,promote the development of the village collective economy,establish the financial support mechanism of rural management and service,and prevent the unconditional assessment,so the village collective debt will be resolved,and at the same time some new debt will be prevented.

Abstract:
China's export has increased to 196 times that of the value before China's reform and opening up. But most of the export products are low value-added primary products,and the trade friction is increasing in the recent years. All of these make our country pay more attention to the role of technical innovation in export. The development of high technology industry can best represent the development of a country's technological innovation,and the export of our country's electronics and telecommunications products takes more than half the share of high technology products export. In this paper,we select the technical innovation factors in China's eastern,central and western regions from 2001 to 2010,including electronics and telecommunications products R&D funding intensity,the R&D personnel input intensity and number of patents. By using panel data,we study their influence on export,and give reasonable analysis on the results.

Abstract:
It is significant for insurance company to evaluate the competitiveness correctly. That can help the company to implement competitive strategy and improve the market competitiveness. However, the basic action for evaluating the competitiveness is constructing the evaluation index system reasonably. This paper selects and evaluates the index through four principles, and denote the index based on six dimensions:strategic capability,business innovation ability, business marketing ability, solvency, investment ability and risk management ability respectively. Using the pairwise comparison matrix to calculate the weight of each index, the total score can be obtained based on the score marked by experts, higher the score, stronger the competitiveness. Using the pairwise comparison matrix, that has theoretical and practical significance for insurance company.

With the continuous development of higher education enterprise in China, the scales of higher institutions are expanding, which has put forward higher requirements to the financial management of colleges and universities. These situations generate the appointed accountant system in order to complete the deepened reform of financial management system in higher institutions. The appointed accountant system has played very important role in strengthening financial supervision, plugging financial holes, defending financial risks and preventing the loss of state assets, but there are also problems in the practical applications.
