Abstract: The good civic virtue is one of the important conditions which guarantee the operation of democratic system and is also the direct purpose of civil education. In 1990s this question aroused the attention in the West, among which some representative theories of civic virtue were: the Liberalism theory, the Socialism theory, the Left theory and the Republicanism theory. As to the civil education in China, there should be civic virtue of chinese characteristics, with its roots deep into the tradition and reality of China, and at the same time using the related Western theories of civic virtue for reference. Furthermore, to cultivate and improve civil diathesis in China, the methods we use may be of many kinds, to name a few: families, shools, politics, communities and the combination of two or more of them.
