Stratification and Alienation of Chinese Scientists——An Analysis on Tu Youyou's Nobel Prize
-
Abstract: Stratification in the scientific community is a social phenomenon. It is closely related to the recognition and evaluation system of the scientific community,or to the level of scientific reward obtained by scientists.Tu Youyou has no doctoral degree,no overseas background and is not a member of the Chinese Academy. But she made the original scientific work of the first level in the world through long-term research work in China. Then she won the Nobel Prize and got the international recognized. This is called a “civilian” scientist victory.“However, whether “Tu” phenomenon is universal in China? How does a scientist “stand out” from the bottom of the Pyramid to the top in the scientific community? It has important significance to the scientists especially young scholars in China. In the era of big science, the scientists'hierarchical level in the scientific community is directly related with sufficient and effective resources, which is the important or even decisive factor that determines whether the scientists can contribute to the scientific career.-
