Abstract: Shi Dao‘an’s thought for sutra translation experienced a developmental process from ambiguity to increasingly clarity.Namely, before he entered Chang'an, the capital, Shi Dao‘an’s attitude that the Chinese translation of Sutra should be ornamented or unornamented was not quite clear but ambiguous.After he entered Chang'an, however, in order to regulate and guide the sutra translation, his attitude became increasingly clear, namely, he advocated that the Chinese version should be unornamented and unabridged, and he obviously opposed the deletion and ornamentedness in Chinese translation, with the exception of quite limited flexibility.
