Abstract: In late 80's and early 90's of last century, many Chinese famous colleges and universities chose to change their names, and University of Science and Technology Beijing is one of them.Professor Wang Run as the last president of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology and the first president of University of Science and Technology Beijing, witnessed the whole process of the school renaming.In this paper, professor Wang was interviewed about the causes, the whole process, the social background and the influence of the name changing.Through this case Chinese higher education reform in the period of social transformation is shown a glimpse.
