Evidentiality in Ivanka's and Chelsea's Convention Speeches and Its Discursive Power

摘要: 文章以Ivanka Trump和Chelsea Clinton在2016年美国总统大选前两党代表大会上的助选演讲为例,分析所使用的各种言据手段及其信度和态度介入程度特征,比较两位演讲者使用言据手段的偏好和倾向,进而基于言语行为理论,结合民意调查数据和权威媒体评论等,探讨言据手段选择可能带来的言语效果。Abstract: This paper investigates evidentiality in the convention speeches of Ivanka Trump and Chelsea Clinton during the 2016 American General Election and its discursive power,focusing on the evidential strategies employed by the two speakers to achieve their persuasive goals and then scrutinizing the information credibility and speakers' engagement indicated by the evidentials.The study suggests that each type of evidential markers realizes certain speech acts and eventually brings about some discursive power according to the polls and news from popular media.
