Analysis of Image-Text Relations in English Picture Book and Its Implications With Little Red Riding Hood as an Example

摘要: 文章以Kress&van Leeuwen (2006) 的视觉图像语法和Nikolajeva & Scott (2000) 对图文关系的区分为理论基础, 从多模态话语分析的角度对《小红帽》两个版本中的图文关系进行了描述和分析, 发现两个版本的图文之间都存在重复和互补两种关系, 但在程度和具体表现方式上存在差异。此外, 文章还考察了影响儿童故事理解的图文关系的其他方面, 以及基于这些分析基础上的对英语绘本教学的启示。Abstract: Based on Kress & van Leeuwen's (2006) grammar of visual design and Nikolajeva & Scott's (2000) distinction of image-text relations, this paper describes and analyzes the image-text relations in two versions of Little Red Riding Hood.It is found that the symmetrical and complementary relations exist in both versions, but in different ways.Besides, this paper also investigates other aspects of image-text relations which affect children's understanding of the story.It is hoped that this study will provide some implications on the teaching of English picture books.
