“The Five Virtues” and Political Theology in China

摘要: 在中国古代社会里，“五德终始”的政治神学在每逢王朝更换之际经常发挥重要的政治作用。不过在周公“以德配天”和孔子“为政以德”的政治理论主导下，“五德终始”说及“五帝”、“五色”等等神学推演，主要都是发挥政治文化的象征符号意义。Abstract: In ancient times in China, the political theology of “the five virtues” often played an important role on the occasions of dynasty subrogation. The doctrines of “the five virtues”, “the five emperors”, “the five colors”, etc. evolved from the main political theories of “regality from Heaven for virtue” advocated by Zhougong and “governing with virtue” by Confucius, are all symbols of politics and culture.
