Abstract: The cohesion and coherence of discourse are vital not only in the construction of discourse, but also in the translation of discourse.Topic chain is a unifying mechanism in constructing cohesion and coherence.Hence based on the difference of Subject, Topic and Topic Chain between Chinese and English, this paper makes a comparative analysis of Shijun Wei's New Hall in Yongzhou and its English version(translated by Luo Jingguo).The research shows that the English version is almost equivalent to the original text, but the cohesion in Topic Chain need to be modified in order to ensure the cohesion and coherence of the translated text, making the English version more faithful to the original one.Thus, the translation quality can be improved.
