A Confucian Reading of Humanistic Thoughts in J.M.Coetzee's Works
-
Abstract: There has always been a consensus among the critics that J.M.Coetzee'works are intellectually anchored in the cultural metropolis of Europe and the United States, and they also belong to South African literature. Thus the correlation between his works and Chinese culture has never been covered. In fact, however, many of his writings have touched upon China or Chinese elements more or less, and Coetzee himself has really known what Chinese culture and even ancient China were.We readers can even dig out the relation of Coetzee with Confucian culture from his biography. The present paper attempts to exploit the relation with the focus on humanism on penalty concept and Great Harmony thought in the writer's works which are in line with Confucianism, revealing his multicultural thought as well as the universal significance of Confucianism.
