From “Self” to “Individual”: Lu Xun's Traditional Model of Thinking in the Acceptance of German Individualism

摘要: 鲁迅1907、1908年的五篇文言论文,在“神思”、“精神”、“意力”、“心声”、“内曜”、“白心”等观念系统中提出了其早期的“个人”思想。从文本表述中可以看到,鲁迅的“个人”言说一方面直接援引了来自“异域新宗”的西方思想,引人注目的是,他所征引的“个人”思想,都来自诸如施蒂纳、叔本华、尼采、果尔凯戈尔、易卜生等德国或德国文化圈的思想家,另一方面,他之转述所运用的语汇又大多取自周易、孔孟、老庄、佛教、陆王心学等传统符号资源。表象隐寓着深层的联系,深入鲁迅早期“个人”观念可以发现,正是传统思维结构的存在,决定了他对十九世纪末德国“极端之个人主义”的偏爱和吸取,通过中、德思想传统中文化“自我”的比较勘察,可以发现,青年鲁迅正是通过中国的“自我”接受了德国的“个人”。这一发现说明了:鲁迅反传统的“个人”观念的形成,却内在地受制于自己的传统。

Abstract: The early thought of Lu Xun's “individual” was presented in the five theses created in 1907 and 1908 in classical Chinese, together with the concepts of the state of mind, spirit, willpower, aspiration, quiet mind, etc.His idea of individual mainly came from the western thinkers, such as Stirner, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Ibsen etc.on the one hand;the terms used in his expression mainly came from traditional Chinese semiotic resources, such as Book of Changes, Confucius and Mencius, Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, Buddhism, the Lu-Wang Xin Xue, etc.on the other hand.The study shows that Lu Xun's traditional model of thinking makes him to love and accept the German ultra-individualism in the end of 19th century, and the comparative study of the “cultural individual” in Chinese and German tradition of thinking shows that young Lu Xun accepted the German “individual” through the Chinese “self”.This also tells that his counter traditional “individual” is actually confined with his own tradition.
